Volunteer Opportunity: The Collaboration for a New Century

Volunteer Opportunities Available:

The Collaboration for a New Century recruits volunteers interested in sharing their expertise with a partner “Blue Ribbon” non-profit agency to help improve and expand the agency’s services. The type of service or program can vary based on the agency’s need, but examples include help with strategic planning, process improvements, marketing, staff and Board development, technology and finances. Most volunteers work for 9 months.

Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older and provide their own transportation.

Volunteer Opportunity: United Way of Northern Arizona VITA

Mission:

To improve lives by mobilizing communities to make lasting changes in community conditions.

Volunteer Opportunity Available:

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) volunteers include:

  • Tax Assistor: prepare taxes for families making less than $50,000 a year, utilizing training provided by the IRS
  • Screener: Greet clients, help explain process, review tax documents

Geographic Areas Served:

Flagstaff, Page, Williams, Leupp, Show Low, Holbrook, St. Johns

Volunteer Requirements:

Volunteers must be familiar with computers and have the ability to work with a wide range of people. Volunteers are responsible for their own transportation to and from VITA sites and should be 16 or older. Bilingual or multilingual volunteers are needed, particularly those fluent in Spanish.

Volunteers must be 16 or older to serve in the kitchen, 8 or older to work in the warehouse. Spanish speaking volunteers are always needed.

Volunteer Opportunity: Sojourner Center

Mission:

To overcome the impact of domestic violence one life at a time.

To expand domestic violence shelter and transitional housing in our community so no victim is ever forced to retrun to a violent home.

However, if a volunteers stays with A New Leaf for at least one year, they will be reimbursed the fingerprinting clearance costs. The minimum age for volunteers is 18, but minors may volunteer if supervised by a parent or other adult. Bilingual/multilingual volunteers sometimes needed, but this is not a required skill.

Volunteer Opportunity: Catholic Charities Project HOPE

Mission:

Affirming human dignity and developing just and caring communities for vulnerable children, families at risk, and people in crisis.

Vision:

Project HOPE (Help Out of Poverty ForEver) is a new initiative from Catholic Charities to combat poverty in Central and Northern Arizona.  Project HOPE assists motivated individuals to realize their goals and to leave behind a life of uncertainty for a life of security, stability, and satisfaction.  The program consists of 4 sessions of financial literacy classes, 14 sessions of Getting Ahead classes, followed by acceptance into a Circle of Support, whose members accompany the individual as he/she develops then pursues his/her Dream Plan.

Volunteer Opportunities Available:

Project HOPE has volunteer opportunities for trainers to teach a series of financial education classes to adults, teens, and children; trainers to teach a series of 14  “Getting Ahead” classes based on Dr. Ruby Pane’s ideas ; “Circles of Support” mentors to our participants based on their individual needs; childcare volunteers; and volunteers to help prepare and cater meals  for our weekly classes.

  • Volunteers must provide their own transportation.
  • Volunteers assisting with childcare and teaching classes for teens and children are required to have fingerprint clearance, which Catholic Charities will pay for.

Mission:

To provide comprehensive dental care to homeless children, women, and men.

Volunteer Opportunities Available:

  • Maintain Facebook and/or Twitter accounts
  • Work in front or back office
  • Volunteer Dentists needed

Geographic Region:

Facebook/Twitter volunteers can be located anywhere with internet access.  In-office volunteers serve at the clinic’s central Phoenix location.
