Volunteer Requirements:

Volunteers may be required to lift upwards of 20 pounds. Volunteers are required to provide their own transportation, and some kitchen prep volunteers may need to provide their own Food Handler’s Card. Volunteers must be 16 or older to serve in the kitchen, 8 or older to work in the warehouse. Spanish speaking volunteers are always needed.

Volunteer Opportunity: A New Leaf

Mission:

A New Leaf is a caring community that provides quality service as a catalyst for positive change and growth in the lives of the individuals and families seeking help.

Volunteer Requirements:

Volunteers are required to provide their own transportation. Volunteers working with children are required to have a fingerprint clearance card, which the agency does not pay for. However, if a volunteers stays with A New Leaf for at least one year, they will be reimbursed the fingerprinting clearance costs. The minimum age for volunteers is 18, but minors may volunteer if supervised by a parent or other adult. Bilingual/multilingual volunteers sometimes needed, but this is not a required skill.

Volunteer Opportunity: Catholic Charities Project HOPE

Mission:

Affirming human dignity and developing just and caring communities for vulnerable children, families at risk, and people in crisis.

Vision:

Project HOPE (Help Out of Poverty ForEver) is a new initiative from Catholic Charities to combat poverty in Central and Northern Arizona.  Project HOPE assists motivated individuals to realize their goals and to leave behind a life of uncertainty for a life of security, stability, and satisfaction.  The program consists of 4 sessions of financial literacy classes, 14 sessions of Getting Ahead classes, followed by acceptance into a Circle of Support, whose members accompany the individual as he/she develops then pursues his/her Dream Plan.

Volunteer Opportunities Available:

Project HOPE has volunteer opportunities for trainers to teach a series of financial education classes to adults, teens, and children; trainers to teach a series of 14  “Getting Ahead” classes based on Dr. Ruby Pane’s ideas ; “Circles of Support” mentors to our participants based on their individual needs; childcare volunteers; and volunteers to help prepare and cater meals  for our weekly classes.

Volunteer Opportunity: Spirit of God Ministries

Spirit of God Ministries are homeless shelters, churches, and programs serving the needy.

Volunteer Opportunities Available:

Spirit of God Ministries has a homeless shelter which provides meals three times a day, and also opens their gates approximately three times per month for mass feedings.

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Volunteers are required to have their own transportation, and the city bus comes within one block.
  • Light, medium, and heavy work available.
  • Food handler card is not required, but individuals with a food handlers card are a plus!
  • Volunteers should be 18 and older. Youth looking to volunteer should contact Spirit of God Ministries to inquire about parent/guardian requirements.
  • Bilingual is not necessary, but is a plus!

Areas Served:

Spirit of God Ministries has two locations, serving those living in their homeless shelters and opening their gates three times a month to serve the hungry in the surrounding area. They are located at:

Volunteer Opportunity: Maggie’s Place

Mission:

Maggie’s Place is a community that provides houses of hospitality for expectant women who wish to achieve their goals in a dignified atmosphere. Following Catholic social teaching, we recognize that we are responsible to and for one another. We challenge each other to strive toward personal growth, to welcome the gift of every person that enters our door, and to promote positive social change. In this way, we celebrate and provide for the next generation.

Volunteer Opportunities Available:

Maggie’s Place is always on the look-out for volunteers to assist with sorting donations, cleaning and organizing, performing minor home repairs, preparing a meal, babysitting, and providing house coverage (answering phones, etc.). In addition, Maggie’s Place accepts one-time and special project volunteers for activities such as hosting a baby shower, yard work, painting, etc. Please contact the house you’re interested in volunteering at for more information.
